Fuel Scarcity: Is There An End In View?!

Jokes have been made about the Yoruba man's ability to coin greetings for any situation whatsoever, even those things that don't seem to need a special greeting. You hear things like 'eku orun' (greeting for sleep), 'eku ojo' (for rain), 'eku oge' (during any form of beautification), and so on. The latest greeting going viral now however is 'eku fuel scarcity o'. Indeed, we should greet each other about this.

It is alarming that the current fuel scarcity has been allowed to go on for so long, and it is more alarming that Nigerians cannot even see an end in view. Week after week, we have hoped that a new day would bring a change, but it has only gotten worse.

In most parts of Lagos, no filling stations are selling fuel, so the black market sellers are having a field day. We groaned when we had to buy for N150 per litre, now fuel is selling for a whooping N500 per litre. Unfortunately, the hiked price may not be the only price to pay. There have been cases in which people have bought adulterated fuel off the black market which ruined their car engines.

If you think you have had it bad since this scarcity began, take a look at these folks:

Most people have concluded that the current administration will not do anything to remedy the situation. If that is true, then it is my earnest prayer that the 'ogas at the top' have a change of heart this week. May 29 is around the corner, but 5 days feels like a lot of time to continue in this hardship, and even beyond May 29, will the situation change immediately?
