You have no idea how many pairs of jeans I have had to turn into cut-offs because they became too tight and I couldn't wear them again! It's so annoying, perfectly fine jeans just shrinking by themselves when I know I am not getting fatter (really, I'm not!). Anyway, good for me, I discovered how to stretch jeans that shrink, or that have just become too tight one way or another, and you've also got to know how to do this!
There are several methods to use. One method is to put your jeans on and have a warm bath in them, this is better done in a bath tub where you can actually soak for about 15 minutes. When the fabric of the jeans begins to loosen, start stretching it at the spots you want stretched. When you step out of the bath, do some squatting and stretching exercises. Take them off and dry them, when they are dry, wear them and do some exercise again. You'll have to repeat this procedure for some time and the jeans will conform to the new shape. However, avoid washing them in a machine, it will shrink again. Always hand wash jeans.
A simpler method is to fill a spray bottle with lukewarm water and spray the areas you want to stretch with plenty water. Make sure the water completely soak through the fabric. Pull the fabric in opposite directions repeatedly. The denim should stretch. For more methods you can use, look in here.
