For The Love Of Food: How To Control Overeating

If you love food, I mean well cooked, perfectly spiced, and deliciously tasty food, you would probably be very familiar with the struggle to avoid overeating. It's very easy to eat more than you should when food is really nice and seems to just keep flowing by itself down your throat. However, you know this isn't good because overfeeding leads to getting overweight (well, except you love physical activity so much that you quickly burn off all the calories you eat). The other bad thing about overeating is that you end up feeling bloated and uneasy, kind of like a 'food hangover'. It's just a very uncomfortable feeling. So, here are ways to help you avoid overeating at meal times:

1. Always eat breakfast

Skipping breakfast makes you tend to overeat throughout the rest of the day to satisfy your psychological longing to try to 'make up' for the morning meal you missed. It is not advisable to skip meals, in fact, doctors say it is better to eat 4 - 5 small meals rather than 3 heavy meals in a day, if you must skip any meals however, dinner seems to be the best option.

2. The water trick

Before eating, drink a full glass of water, the water fills you up and gives you less space to stuff with more food.

3. The mindful eating trick

Avoid eating while you watch a movie or do stuff on your computer or read a novel. You tend to get carried away with what you are doing and then you don't realize when you get full and you just keep eating.

4. The halfsies trick

Whenever you have a large mountain of food before you, half it and keep half of it away before you start eating. You'll usually find that you feel full after eating that half, plus the half you kept will be available for another meal later on.

5. The veggie trick

If you feel that you simply must have a large portion of food, make sure more of it is vegetables. You can hardly go wrong with eating plenty veggies, they fill you up and offer a lot of nutrition, plus they send you to the toilet rather quickly too!

Cheers to food lovers who don't overeat!
