I admire ladies with the 'full-on glam' look - a lot. The smoky eyes draw me in, the flawless face (what is now called a face beat), the illusion of high cheekbones, of a slimmer face. I love the look of a perfect red-lipped pout, bronzed cheeks and most especially those perfectly sculptured eyebrows. Lots of women have got the 'I just stepped out of a magazine' look, and I admire it, but that just can't be me. Why? It's really simple.
1. I'm just too lazy to afford the time!
Doing a perfect face takes time, too much time. I'ld rather snooze in bed for the extra 15 minutes or so that it'll take to add makeup to my morning regimen. People have called me lazy 'cos of that, and I have stopped arguing!
2. It makes my face itch
Once in a while (like special occasions, you know), I wear makeup. I almost always feel like clawing at my face. It feels like all the layers of foundation, concealer, powder and all the other orisirisi just clogs my pores! It's just kind of uncomfortable, really.
3. It's Expensive
If I am going to do makeup on a steady, I won't risk ruining my beautiful black facial skin with cheap fake products. Those high end brands however, do not come cheap. I can't afford to constantly worry about shelling out all that extra Naira for Mary kay and Victoria's secret.
4. I love to be in physical contact with my face
Wearing makeup means you have to hands-off your face. That's kinda difficult for me, I rub my eyes a lot, rub my forehead when it aches, run my hand across my chin as I think etc. My hands just seem to have a natural affinity for my face, sometimes it's as if I just want to see if it's still there! Lol.
5. I like to always be recognizable
Makeup they say is supposed to accentuate your beauty, but on me, it seems to totally change my look. A lot of people almost fail to recognize me with makeup, I'ld rather stay recognizable, before someone will ask me if I forgot my face at home one day!
6. It's just too stressful jare
Believe me, I know. You should see some ladies in front of the mirror. Mouth slightly open in concentration when they are lining their eyes (I've always wondered about that interesting connection between the eyes and mouth though), dabbing this and that on, looking for the correct color for their skin and so on. Abeg, that is too much serenren! I don't even know the names of all the creams and brushes!
7. I like to use white handkerchiefs
I sweat healthily (you think you will catch me saying I sweat a lot, abi), and so, I need to dab at my face ever so often. You can imagine how much color comes off on the handkerchief with every dab - not pretty at all. And then I'll be too embarrassed to bring out my handkerchief in public.
So, that is my story with makeup. Anyone out there who can identify with me? I hail all those ladies that have got this makeup thing under lock down o, but as for me, trimmed brows, white talcum and colorless lip gloss - and I'm good to go!
