The Painful Process Of Rebirth

Do you have Nigeria on your mind? If you are resident in Nigeria, then you really should. Have you been wondering why things just seem so tough lately? It kinda feels like everything that was already bad just got worse, right? Well, you should read this brief exposè to see a different perspective:
The Eagle has the longest life-span of its species. It can live up to 70 years. But to reach this age, the eagle must make a very difficult decision! In its 40th year, the eagle's long and flexible Talons can no longer grab a prey which serves as food. Its long and sharp beak becomes bent.

Guest Post: Volunteering - A Sure Way Out Of Unemployment

There have been so many suggestions on how to escape unemployment because of its risks such as poverty, rise in crime rate, degradation of health, among others. Several schools of thought have suggested entrepreneurship as a way out of unemployment while some believe in vocations and trade but less emphasis has been laid on volunteering. The hurdle against this is the high financial expectation placed on the graduates by themselves or the society. This has catalyzed the “make-it-quickly” attitude of the average youth.

Secret Identity Revealed: The Person Who Has Been Holding You Back

Thanks to the kind of society we were born, raised and still live in, there is almost no one that won't be eager to know if there is someone holding them back from progress and growth in life. It won't be enough to simply know about the existence of such a person. You would also want to know the full identity...

The Paper Bag Of Food

My boss drove a luxury car everyday and it was my duty to greet him and to open the gates for him, as I worked as a watchman in his villa. But he never responded back to my greetings.

Guest Post: The Principles And Secrets Of Excellent Leadership

In times past, seasoned minds have attempted to enlighten us on what leadership really is. These are some of their definitions:

1. Peter Drucker: “the only definition of a leader is someone who has followers”

2. Warren Bennis: “Leadership is the capacity to translate vision into reality”

3. Bill Gates: “As we look ahead into the next century, leaders will be those who will empower others”

The Profound Last Words Of A Man Who Lay Dying...

The paragraphs below have been attributed to Steve Jobs, that those were the last words he said when he lay dying, his body being ravaged by cancer even the best doctors couldn't stop. His sister was reported to have said his actual last words were "oh wow, oh wow, oh wow".  Several people have tried to interpret what Steve meant those words since they were revealed. Even if the words below were not spoken or written by Steve, they carry a profound message all the same. It makes you sit and think of what your life would have been worth when you reach the end. Everyone needs to have that thinking session at least once in a lifetime - better still, over and over again!
I reached the pinnacle of success in the business world. In others’ eyes, my life is an epitome of success. However, aside from work, I have little joy. In the end, wealth is only a fact of life that I am accustomed to.

Have You Been Sharpening Your Axe?

The story has been told and retold of a very strong woodcutter who asked for a job from a timber merchant. He got the job and the pay was really good. Even the work  conditions were great. For those reasons, the woodcutter was determined to do his best. His new boss gave him an axe and showed him the area where he would work.

The 12 Phases Of Life

"Life is in phases, men are in sizes". Those 8 words have become some sort of mantra and they are very true. Have you ever been bored and very unsatisfied with a particular stage in your life? Then you would understand the zeal to move on to the next phase. You get to the next stage only to realize that you feel somewhat nostalgic, wishing you had done more or lived more in the previous phase. The trick is to understand all the phases/stages of life, know which one you are in per time and enjoy it to the fullest. Live no room for regrets when life approaches the end. Each phase has a gift, just as you are about to learn below. Utilize every gift.

Short Story: The Kind Of Life A Dead Fish Has

Tom was on his weekly walk with his mentor, Dwyer, when he made the comment that he didn’t want to work on developing himself anymore. They were walking past a river, when Tom said, “Every week you tell me to learn something or grow in a particular area. To be frank, I’m a bit sick of it and don’t want to change any more. Why can’t I just stay the way I am? Isn’t that good enough?”

Are You In Love Or Just Attached? The Difference Is Important!

When I read the first line of this article, I told myself "this Raven Fon lady is really on to something". You need to read this to understand. Older people who are either married or in a serious relationship will read this and probably recognize something from their own past or something that sounds like someone they know or used to know. Well, for them, it's now past and they've gone beyond it. They are in serious relationships now. But for younger people, this is something worth reading and thinking about. Being 'in love' with someone new ever so often isn't really as cool as it sounds.

This Is How People Place Value On You

A little boy went to his old grandpa and asked, "What's the value of life?" The grandpa gave him one stone and said, "Find out the value of this stone, but don't sell it."

The boy took the stone to an Orange Seller and asked him what its cost would be. The Orange Seller saw the shiny stone and said, "You can take 12 oranges and give me the stone." The boy apologized and said that the grandpa has asked him not to sell it.

Get Ready To Be Jolted Awake!

"Life happens"

You know what we mean when we say those two words. It means things just seem to start spinning out of control and we don't even know how to regain that control. Everything just seems to be happening to you. I've been there - in fact, very recently. The confusion is real and it just feels like you are in some kind of sleep that you desperately need to wake up from. If these 22 truths don't jolt you awake (like they jolted me), I don't know what will.

Why (Almost) Everyone You Know Hates Their Job - Including You!

If you were to start asking around, you'll probably find that there is actually a large percentage of job-haters around you. Many people have to go to work everyday pretending to love it when in reality, they can't wait to move on! I've been there, I know how frustrating it is to go to work each day groaning internally and wondering how to meet the day's work goals, yet again. That's why I didn't feel bad when an interviewer once denied me a job because he didn't think it was a job I would enjoy doing - I totally agreed! I had applied out of necessity and lack of many other options.

A Note To Yourself - About Being Thankful

Why does life have to be so complicated? You get up before dawn and hurry to get ready so you can hit the road before the sun starts to wake up. You haven't even been on the road for 20 minutes yet when some impatient bus driver scratches your car and leaves a big, ugly mark - the car you had repainted just last week! The kids are being noisy in the back of the car and distracting you from your thoughts. You really need to think straight, you've got a big presentation first thing in the office this same morning. What is there to be thankful about? There's just too much stress!

Acres Of Diamonds

There was a farmer in Africa who was happy and content. He was happy because he was content. He was content because he was happy. One day a wise man came to him and told him about the glory of diamonds and the power that goes along with them.

Rejection Is Just One Person's Opinion!

This post is not necessarily directed at rejection from ex boyfriends/girlfriends (although, in a general sense, I guess it could also apply). What I mean is actually those times when you've come up with a brilliant idea or plan, or something that seemed like it was brilliant until someone threw it back in your face and told you that your idea and maybe even you are simply not good enough. Rejection happens to the best of us and it hurts like crazy. What you must always keep in mind however is that rejection is just one person's opinion (or several people sometimes), but it doesn't mean what they think is the fact. By the way, rejection only spurs you to go further and do better, it makes you want to out-do your past self, and that's a very good thing. It's called improvement!

This Is Why You Need To Get Your Nose In A Book!

Now this is a message I strongly endorse. we need to read, we need to get people reading. If our generation doesn't read just imagine what will happen to our children. It's happening already anyway. One of my professors always said our generation was doomed because we have no zeal for knowledge, no desire to read books. We need to change that trend. We can't afford to be the generation who can't find hidden secrets just because they are between the pages of a book. I told myself a while back that there is no way my children are going to get any piece of personal technology (phones, tabs, etc) until they have developed a habit of reading at least one book a week. They will read tons of paper books before they start reading any soft copies! Friends, this is why you should read:
