Slow Fade: A Story Of Love That Once Was...

Tope had been uncomfortable all afternoon. It was Valentine's day and Bayo was taking her out later in the day, she should have been very excited about that, but Tope was anything but excited.

She and Bayo had been together for two years now. She had first agreed to date him on February 14,  two years ago, so today was not just Val for them, it was also their anniversary. Their 1st anniversary last year had been magical, but a lot of things had changed since then.

[SHORT STORY] Paid Back With Interest

If you don't already know, then at some point in your life, you'll come to know that appearances can be deceptive. Whoever coined the phrase 'don't judge a book by it's cover' was very wise. You probably have also heard people say 'what goes around comes back around', that is the summary of the law of karma. It not only applies to bad deeds, but also to kind and noble deeds. The short story you are about to read is a powerful tale of how kindness came back in a full circle to a man - with interest and in the least expected way!

Short Story: The Kind Of Life A Dead Fish Has

Tom was on his weekly walk with his mentor, Dwyer, when he made the comment that he didn’t want to work on developing himself anymore. They were walking past a river, when Tom said, “Every week you tell me to learn something or grow in a particular area. To be frank, I’m a bit sick of it and don’t want to change any more. Why can’t I just stay the way I am? Isn’t that good enough?”

This Is How People Place Value On You

A little boy went to his old grandpa and asked, "What's the value of life?" The grandpa gave him one stone and said, "Find out the value of this stone, but don't sell it."

The boy took the stone to an Orange Seller and asked him what its cost would be. The Orange Seller saw the shiny stone and said, "You can take 12 oranges and give me the stone." The boy apologized and said that the grandpa has asked him not to sell it.

Story Series: The Man From My Past [I]

I sighed deeply and sank into my bed. It was a bright Saturday morning and I just got off the phone with Julius. He had called to cancel our beach date, he said something about being needed at the office. He hadn’t even given me time to rant at him and fully express my displeasure, he had just hurriedly explained something I still didn’t understand and then said some people were waiting for him already and then he had just abruptly ended the call! And they say women are overbearing, how can we not be?

From The Diary Of A Broken Woman (III)

If you missed the first parts of these series, you can catch up here to help you appreciate this part better: From The Diary Of A Broken Woman (I) and From The Diary Of A Broken Woman (II)

Excerpt from part II: One day, I came home and I saw hubby sitting in the living room...On the coffee table, there was a piece of paper. I knew what it is all about without even looking at it. I looked at him, took off my hat and said calmly: "You wait a while, I will sign." He looked at me, mixed feelings in his eyes, just like mine. As I hung up my coat, I kept repeating to myself "You cannot cry, you cannot cry...". My eyes hurt terribly, but I refused to let tears come out. After I hung up my coat, hubby's eyes stared fixed at my bulging tummy. I smiled a shaky smile, walked over to the coffee table and pulled the paper towards me. Without even looking at what it said, I signed my name on it and pushed the paper to him.

"LD, are you pregnant?"

From The Diary Of A Broken Woman (II)

If you missed the first part of these series, you can catch up here to help you appreciate this part better: From The Diary Of A Broken Woman (I).

At the hospital entrance, I saw my hubby standing there. It had only been three days, but he looked haggard. I wanted to turn and leave, but one look at him and my heart softened. I couldn't resist calling out to him. He turned to the sound of my voice but when his eyes found me, he pretended that he didn't know me; There was a look of disgust in his eyes that cut right through my heart. I told myself not to look at him anymore, and I hailed a cab. At that moment, I had such a strong urge to shout to my hubby: "Darling, I am having your baby!" and have him lift me up and spin me around in circles of joy. Instead, I got in the cab and let the tears fall free. Why? Why couldn't our love withstand the test of one fight?

From The Diary Of A Broken Woman (I)

Just two years after our marriage, hubby brought up the idea of asking Mother to move from the rural hometown and spend her remaining years with us. Hubby's father had passed away while he was still very young. Mother had endured much hardship and struggled all on her own to provide for him and see him through to a university degree. You could say that she suffered a great deal and did everything you could expect of a woman to bring hubby to where he is today.

The Final Promise: I'll Carry You Every Morning Until Death Do Us Apart

When I got home that night as my wife served dinner, I held her hand  and said, I’ve got something to tell you. She sat down and ate quietly.  Again I observed the hurt in her eyes.

Suddenly I didn’t know how  to open my mouth. But I had to let her know what I was thinking. I want a  divorce. I raised the topic calmly. She didn’t seem to be annoyed by my words, instead she asked me softly, why?
