Wash my pillows? Weird question right? you are probably thinking that the next thing I'll ask is if you wash your mattress too. Well, washing your pillow sis not as silly as it sounds. Think about it, your pillow does get packed with a lot of dirt and germs: the creams and pomades from your hair, the germs that go into it when you have a cold and you sneeze or blow your nose when your head is on your pillow, sweat on hot nights, lots of dust in the atmosphere, and for the people who drool in their sleep, all that drool also finds it way into your pillow! If your towels, bed sheets, pillow cases get to be changed and cleaned regularly, so should your pillows. You should clean out your pillows every 6 months and air dry them in the sun more regularly.

How To Get Rid Of 'Yellow Armpits' Forever!
It is absolutely unforgiveable for you to raise your arms for one reason or the other in public and then everyone needs to see the disgusting yellow stains in your shirt underarms. You can't control the interactions of sweat and deodorant that cause the stains, but what you can do is to wash them out properly. I know regular detergent won't do that no matter how long you soak and scrub, so, I've got an easy way out for you! Now, you NEVER have to have stained armpits again!

How Often Do You Wash Your Towel?
Before washing machines became popular, I used to hate, in fact, loathe the task of washing my bathroom towel. Why? I was a lot smaller then (with hands proportional to my then small body size), yet my mum would always buy the thickest and heaviest towels she could find in the market. At least, that's how it felt then. Those towels were twice my size, how could my small hands do justice to washing them well, especially the wringing part? As you can imagine, I would never wring them out, I would just do the bit I could do in the water, take it out of the bucket and hang it out like that to drip till it dried.

This Is A Sure Way To Remove Rust From Just About Anything!
How does rust even happen? I mean what causes rust really? One day, you get new and shiny metal stuff that make happy, before you know what's happening, they are all rusty! Ok, I know it's a mix of moisture and air that causes metal to rust, it's just that I still get surprised at how quickly rust seems to sneak up on stuff. Well, it so happened that my mum started noticing that a lot of the metal spoon and mug hangers among other things in her kitchen were getting rusty. She was quite upset about it and was already talking about replacing stuff. So, trust your's truly, I did some asking around for her and it turned out we had a solution to the rust problem right in our kitchen! So mum cautiously tried out my proposed solution on one rusty mug hanger, the results were so good that she is repeating the process on almost everything in sight (even those that are not exactly rusty!)

How To Make Your Sink Brand New With Just One Simple Ingredient!
I doubt that any faucet is immune to getting all those annoying water stains that just won't come off after it's been in use for some time. I have water stained faucets like that at home and washing with Hypo and Harpic combined doesn't seem to get it off. Apparently, what Hypo failed to do, ordinary white vinegar can do. You have one more reason to make sure you always have a bottle of white vinegar at home now!

For The Love Of Food: The Making Of A Delicacy - Catfish Pepper Soup
Not too long ago, my best friend had a craving for catfish pepper soup, so we went looking for fresh catfish to buy and go make ourselves some nice, home cooked pepper soup. We got all the ingredients except for pepper soup spice because I knew there was a bottle of that spice at home. Imagine my great disappointment when we got home and I realized the pepper soup spice was expired! It was a big 'oops' moment (I must confess I was tempted to use the expired spice, thankfully, I didn't give in to the temptation). No one was in the mood to go looking for pepper soup spice again, so I had to go ahead and make the soup with the ingredients we had available. Pepper soup without pepper soup spice!
I followed this simple recipe from Korje, only that one ingredient was missing, and you know the surprising part? Read on to find out.
You've Been Knotting Your Shoelaces Wrongly The Whole Time!
Shoes that have laces are in vogue now probably more than ever. From dress shoes for men to unisex sneakers, everyone has at least one pair of shoes that has laces. If your laces keep getting loose after you walk some distance and you need to keep stopping to re-tie them again and again, you've probably been doing it all wrong. If they never loosen, it could be that you make the knot too hard and then it gets very difficult to take out when you want to remove the shoes, either way, it's not ideal. This Ukrainian lacing method of knotting shoe laces is the best I've seen so far in terms of firmness, ease and neatness. Learn how to do it from the step by step photos and 1 minute demo video below.

How To Put An End To Bleeding Clothes
It's very depressing to own clothes that you love very much bleed their colour every time you wash them until they are too faded to wear anymore. It's even worse if the colours on one piece of clothing transfers to another during a wash, you end up having more ruined clothes at the end of the day. You can easily avoid all that pain, by colour fasting your clothes. This means making the colours stay on fabric like butter on bread (or even better!) Learn this technique for colourfasting clothes:

How To Care For Every Piece Of Clothing You Own
It's a shame to buy expensive clothing and not be able to wear it again after the first or first couple of wash(es) because it was wrongly washed. At the same time, you don't necessarily have to spend a fortune paying the dry cleaners to literally do your dirty laundry for you. You could clean every single type of fabric you own by your self if you would just be careful enough to follow the directions on the label or the fabric care cheat sheet chart below. Again, as the cover photo says, you could just give it to your mother (except she isn't around!)
For The Love Of Food: How To Make Golden Eggs
A golden egg is just something different from the regular boiled egg that has the egg-white part and the yolk inside it. It's different just because the albumen and yolk were thoroughly mixed up before cooking and so it ends up yellow (or golden according to the Japanese) - yeah, that simple! Golden eggs are particularly good for picky eaters, especially children who either won't eat egg yolk or egg-white. Now, they will eat it all! This is how you make a golden egg:

This Is Why You Don't Need To Wash Your Jeans
I've always hated washing jeans! When you hand wash, they are so difficult to wring properly and when you machine wash, they lose a lot of dye and seem to come out a bit weaker after all the spinning. It always seems to be a lose-lose situation. I wonder, can't they make jeans that don't fade a bit more with each wash? That is one reason I usually stick to lighter shades of blue when buying jeans - because they won't fade as much or as fast, and even if they do, it won't be as noticeable.

For The Love Of Food: Fried Okra Recipe?!
I used to like okra (okro/lady fingers) soup way back when I was little. It went down well with the amala that I also loved. Over time, I lost interest. The main reason being the fact that okra soup is just so plain! At least the way most Yoruba people make it. When I saw Korje's fried okra recipe, I stood amazed. It was interesting to find that people actually fry okra, and whats more, use it to eat rice!
You think it's a joke? Take a look at this badass recipe!

How To Make Fried Chicken With Coca-Cola - Yes, Coca-Cola!
Of all the the things to do with a bottle of Coca-Cola, frying chicken would probably never occur to you. Me too. My eyes popped when I saw a fried chicken with Coca-Cola recipe and I probably will try it out soon. Take a look at the finished product and see if you would want to try this too, at least for the sake of experiment (and then you might fall in love!) The recipe is also included.

Your Phone Fell In Water? Here Is How To Save It (Plus What NOT To Do!)
I recently saw a video of a guy dipping his Samsung Galaxy S6 phone in Coca-Cola for 2 minutes just to see if it would survive. He had previously dipped it in water and all that happened was that the home screen button stopped working, and interestingly, the Coke seemed to have no effect on the phone at all (at least, not as at the time the video was done)
I understand however that not all of us would want to do such expensive experiments with our smart phones, and if for any reason it gets dunked in any form of liquid, it seems like a good time to panic.

For The Love Of Food: The Garden Egg Sauce Delight
It's a pity that the old yam is totally gone and all we have left is the brittle, hairy, new yam now. That old yam is so much sweeter than the new! Anyway, new or old, yam is one of the best things God made, there's just so much you can do with yam. Many times however, you simply want boiled yam and fried eggs (an all time favorite for me). If you worry about eating too much cholesterol and clogging your arteries, garden egg sauce is a good alternative to fried eggs. The bonus point is that it's healthy for you! Here is how you do the garden egg sauce.

For The Love Of Food: How To Make Tiger Nut (Ofio) Milk
For a very long time, I didn't know any other name for them than 'ofio'. The nice nuts we used to buy from mallams and abokis on our way back from school. They made me cough a lot, but I bought them still. Now, I know they are called Tiger nuts in English and I also know you can make some really nice and rich milk from them. I'll tell you how.

For The Love Of Food: The 3 Milo Recipes That Are So Good, You Want Them NOW!
The Gentleman And His Ties...
It was my dad's birthday two days ago - an excellent time for us all to show our appreciation to him for all the love and care. A part of my sister's tribute to him read: "Thanks for knotting your tie and going to work for many years (even when you'd come home tired after hours of traffic and say 'ko easy f'ole), but still set out the next morning just to make sure we always have resources when needed". My dad retired as a chattered accountant, so he did have to knot a tie day after day, like so many men still have to now. I remember he had so many of them. How did he (or mum) care for those ties and avoid having to replace them ever so often?
