Friends Who Stray And Those Who Stay

"I don't know what is wrong with ChiChi, she has just changed. Ever since she left, she didn't even try to keep in touch. I called her during the holidays, she was just sounding so cold, so distant, I tried chatting her up on 2go, she was hardly responding or just responding with one word sentences. It's almost as if she never knew me, like we were never friends". The stunned pain in Somto's voice and on her face as she spoke about her one time friend was so real.

At one time or the other, we probably have all been in Somto's shoes, when people that we love so much and hold dear just choose to walk out of our lives without so much as a farewell. Somto and Chichi had been such close friends, people called then 5 and 6. It had changed suddenly when Chichi had changed schools and probably moved on with new friends, leaving Somto hurting and in surprise.

What Somto needed to know is what many of us have heard before (and need to be reminded of sometimes) - People come into our lives for different purposes, some are there for a reason, some for a season, and some stay for an entire lifetime, the important thing is to be able to determine what category each person in our lives fall into, and be willing to let go if and when necessary.

The only people you will be able to hold on to forever are those who were meant to stay for a lifetime. For the others, when their reason or season is over, it's time to go your different ways without hard or bitter feelings. Life won't stop for anyone. Sometimes, it's just a natural drift, each person moves on to the next phase of life. Sometimes, it's not that simple.

If you get heartbroken for friends that have 'just changed for no apparent reason', don't stay heartbroken. Just let it go, let them go. Remember, life goes on. You will always met new friends, the future is a large place!
