These scientists and researchers have come again! The latest this time is that red wine can simulate the benefits of an hour of exercise in the body and help you to keep fit and lose weight. No be me talk am o, read for yourself.
The University of Alberta in Canada has released results of a study which will be good news to all wine lovers and vineyard owners the world over. The nutritional value of resveratrol, a compound found in red wine, mimics some of the benefits a person gets form one hour of exercise!
Now, who wouldn’t prefer to spend the evening sipping some Merlot instead of grinding away at the treadmill?
Jason Dyck, who led the study in question, commented that these findings could have great implications for people who are physically unable to exercise. Resveratrol was seen to improve physical performance, heart function and muscle strength in the same ways that a workout session did. “I think Resveratrol could help patient populations who want to exercise but are physically incapable,” he says. “Resveratrol could mimic exercise for them or improve the benefits of the modest amount of exercise that they can do.”
The positive health attributes of red wine have been studied and publicized for years. A glass per day has previously been found to reduce the risk of dementia, cancer, heart disease, and blood sugar irregularity. While the study was based only on red wine and tested results in rats (not humans), it might not be too early to up your intake of Resveratrol. It can be found in blueberries, peanut butter, red grapes and dark chocolate, as well as your favorite glass of Bordeaux.
