One Good Reason Not To Quit

One day, I decided to quit my job....

I quit my job, my relationship, my spirituality.... I wanted to quit my life. I went to the woods to have one final talk with God. "God", I asked, "can you give me one good reason not to quit?"

His answer surprised me. "Look around" He said, "Do you see the fern and the bamboo?" "Yes", I replied. God continued, "You see, when I planted the fern and the bamboo, I took very good care of them. I gave them both light and water. The fern sprang up quickly, it's brilliant green colour covered the earth. Nothing came from the bamboo seed, yet I did not quit on it. In the second year, the ferns grew even more vibrant and plentiful. In the third year, there was still nothing from the bamboo seed, but I did not quit."

"In the fourth year, there was still nothing from the bamboo seed, yet I did not quit. Then in the fifth year, a tiny sprout emerged from the earth. Compared to the fern, it was seemingly small and insignificant, but just 6 months later, the bamboo rose to over 100 feet tall! It had spent those 5 years growing roots, because it knew it would need to support big and high stems. Those roots made it strong and gave it what it needed to survive"

"I would not give any of my creations a challenge it could not handle. Did you know, child, that all this while you've been struggling, you have actually been growing roots? I did not quit on the bamboo, I would never quit on you. Don't compare your self to others. The bamboo and the fern have different purposes, yet they both make the forest beautiful"

God said to me "Your time will come, and you will rise high", I

I left the forest a changed man.
