Ever Wondered Why Blacks Are Not Wealthy?

Why does the black race seem to always need to rely on aids and grants and loans from abroad? Why is it that after all these years after independence from colonial masters across the black race, a higher percentage of the black populace still live below poverty line? I am not sure if the excerpts of the interview below were actually the words of a Jewish leader as claimed, but the ideas contained do make a lot of sense, they are obvious answers. Unfortunately, it seems that the average black man despite knowing these truths prefer to live in denial. Do you know why blacks are not wealthy? You have your answers? Read this opinion and see if they are similar to those you already have.

By the way, these are not even exhaustive, but it's a good starting point. Perhaps if we read and hear stuff like this often enough, there will be a shift in our minds.

This Lassa Fever Palava!

In a recent post I wrote titled the sleep thief, I was going on and on about how much I loathed rats and how I managed to kill one that had ventured into my space. Some people might have been wondering why I made such a big deal about that, I hadn't even known the Lassa fever scourge was spreading so fast then. With the recent developments, now everyone knows one of the reasons I made such a fuss about rats. In case you don't have some of the crucial information, read and learn.

There is a piece of particularly interesting information about our dearly beloved cassa via flakes, popularly know as garri. I think you'll be interested to know.

Guest Post: Are You Communicating Effectively?

Communication can be defined as the exchange of information between two entities. Peter Drucker (the father of American Management) observed that “60 percent of management problems results from faulty communication”.

Most of the time, we assume our listener or the receiver of the message understands the message, someimes we say “A” and our body languages say “B”. Effective communication is when both the giver (speaker) of the message (information) and the receiver (listener) comprehend the message, backed up with actions which yield fruitful results and perfect feedback.

That's It, I Quit!

It's no news that 2016 is going to be a year of getting to know who is who. Oil prices have hit rock bottom and everyone seems clueless on the way forward, or more like we know the way forward but perhaps the task ahead seems so daunting that we are almost afraid to start. I need all the encouragement I can get this year, and so do you. If you already feel tempted to quit on anything in your life that seems not to be working now, I would like for you to go ahead and read this to the end.

Tales From The Man Who Went 365 Days WITHOUT Facebook

Let me start by answering the biggest questions you might have about how a man managed to go a whole year without Facebook. No, he didn't travel to the end of the World where there is no internet, and no, he wasn't compelled to. This guy just realized Facebook had become an addiction he couldn't shake and that something had to be done fast.

What's the first thing and the last thing you do each day? If I were to take a poll, the highest frequency would probably be of people whose answer to that question was 'check Facebook'. I find myself in that category on some days too. The fact that the app has notifications waiting for you doesn't help. But hey, before I launch off into another story, I remember that this post is supposed to be about that man who ditched Facebook for a whole year (or at least almost)...

Diary Of The New Wife

If you are yet to read these 6 odd entries into a very interesting new wife's diary, I have to ask, just where have you been? Well, you know I wave it ready for you, but before you start, kindly take note of this quick warning: this stuff is so hilarious, you just might pee in your underwear.

Help! My Belly Just WON'T Lose Weight!!!

"Help! My Belly Just WON'T Lose Weight!!!"

This is one of the most distressing cries of our time. In these days of body shaming and the media painting impossible pictures of what our bodies should look like, it's no wonder every one is desperate for a flat tummy. I don't know if our ancestors ever had to deal with big belly issues. Maybe they never had big bellies, or maybe they just weren't as infatuated with body image as we are today. Anyway, we are where we are now and there is no denying the fact that many of us struggle with losing love handles and big tummies.

But before we seek solace in body shapers and waist trainers (did you know that men wear waist trainers too?!), let's try to understand this issue of stubborn belly fat better. Why does fat cling so stubbornly to our bellies and waists? More importantly, what is the solution? Find all the answers you seek just after the cut!

From One Occasionally Lazy Human To Another

"Today I don't feel like doing anything..., I just wanna lay in my bed..., don't feel like picking up the phone, so leave a message after the tone 'cause today I don't feel like doing anything..., nothing at all..."

If you are a Bruno Mars fan, then you definitely recognize the words above from his popular song - lazy day. You were probably singing as you read them, just like I was singing when I typed them. Bruno was definitely on to something when he sang that song. We all have lazy days. Some people more than others, but I can bet my last 5 dollars that every single person alive has a lazy day every now and then.

The Sleep Thief

I was enjoying the last few minutes of my much needed beauty sleep just before dawn (you know that's when the sleep is nicest), when suddenly I heard the sound of something rustling through stuff in my wardrobe. My eyes snapped open faster than the speed of light. No! No!! No!!! It couldn't be. All the drowsiness disappeared in that minute and my eyes stayed wide open, focused on my open wardrobe, and scanning the room all around every other minute. Sure enough, in a couple of minutes, I heard the sound again. Eyes peeled on wardrobe and in the next second, my worst fear was confirmed.  I saw a grey little body hurtle out of the wardrobe and across the room in a blur. Only one species in creation fit that profile: rat!!!

Obituary! The Unfortunate Demise Of Common Sense

'Common sense not common at all'. Those were the words of my favorite character in one nice movie like that. How true that is. More than just not being common, it would appearthat common sense has all but departed from the greater part of society rgese days. This 'obituary' you are about to read was first printed in the London Times and lots of people seem to think it is quite apt. What do you think?

When The Cow Went Off The Cliff

What was the cow doing by the cliff anyway? And how does a cow going over the cliff become such a noteworthy event that it deserves a story or a narration of how it happened? Well, I think you'ld really like to read about this particular cow, why it went over the cliff, and what happened after. This is what Nigeria needs as a nation and indeed what we each need as individuals this year.

2016: What's Your Agenda?

Whoa! It's a new year! Welcome to 2016. I'm still basking in the euphoria of seeing yet another band new year. But before I talk too much, I must apologize. Gosh! I've been away from here from way too long! I'm so sorry. That's what happens when you get too carried away with festivities and other associated business.

I bet you probably attended some form of watchnight service, maybe at the church, mosque or even some kind of countdown party. I attended a crossover service and everyone had goals for 2016 written down. Even if you don't have goals written down, you have them somewhere in your head.

Those of us that have struggled with the different hues and shades in the color scheme are about to get into even more trouble with colours now!  I though I had heard and seen it all until I saw these new group of vividly descriptive Naija branded colors. We all know that owambe in Nigeria us never complete without picking the colour schemes and also eti everyone should show up in. If you have an event coming up soon, you might want to look at this list for some unusual and entertaining colour inspiration!

Robbed!

Tola struggled with the weight of several shopping bags as she walked back to her car as fast as she could manage. It was getting dark already and she didn't like night driving. She was exhausted already. It had been a mistake to wait so late to do her shopping. The crowds everywhere was almost unbearable. Queues and tussles seemed to be the only way to get anything to buy. Prices had skyrocketed and it just didn't seem worth it.

For those of us that love good food, we know it is not simply enough for food to taste or smell great. It also has to look like something to die for. The presentation of food is as important as anything else. Why else do you think food art is such a big deal now? For pastry chefs and bakers, 2015 was a year to up the game big time with regards to bread making. The 3 top breads that got me drooling just from the photos on a screen are listed right after the cut!

Is Your Car Safe This Christmas?

It is quite unfortunate that the season for the greatest merrymaking of the year is also the season the most crime takes place. The reason is simple, criminals want to make 'good profit' and have a blast during Christmas too. There have been lots of stories about kidnappings, armed robbery attacks and online frauds already. A new trend seems to be car robbery - in the most unusual way, just when you think your car and everything in it is all safe and sound.

So what is the miscreants latest trick? A nice lady shared her experience on Facebook and I think you'll benefit from it:

[SHORT STORY] Paid Back With Interest

If you don't already know, then at some point in your life, you'll come to know that appearances can be deceptive. Whoever coined the phrase 'don't judge a book by it's cover' was very wise. You probably have also heard people say 'what goes around comes back around', that is the summary of the law of karma. It not only applies to bad deeds, but also to kind and noble deeds. The short story you are about to read is a powerful tale of how kindness came back in a full circle to a man - with interest and in the least expected way!

Have You Ever Washed Your Pillows?

Wash my pillows? Weird question right? you are probably thinking that the next thing I'll ask is if you wash your mattress too. Well, washing your pillow sis not as silly as it sounds. Think about it, your pillow does get packed with a lot of dirt and germs: the creams and pomades from your hair, the germs that go into it when you have a cold and you sneeze or blow your nose when your head is on your pillow, sweat on hot nights, lots of dust in the atmosphere, and for the people who drool in their sleep, all that drool also finds it way into your pillow! If your towels, bed sheets, pillow cases get to be changed and cleaned regularly, so should your pillows. You should clean out your pillows every 6 months and air dry them in the sun more regularly.
