A Day With Jaiyeola - The Dainty African With Big Guts (Episode 2)

Jaiyeola loved weekends. They were simply divine! Weekends meant fellowship meetings, more time for herself, opportunities to hang out with her friends or just take a stroll to some of her favorite spots on campus and just smell the roses. This saturday however, Jaiye had a get-together with her unit in the fellowship and she was looking forward to it, but it looked like the pesky rain that had started since dawn wanted to spoil her day. She made up her mind that she would still attend the event despite the unending rain.

Jaiyeola had tried to dress in such a way to avoid stains on her clothes as much as possible, she had picked one of her favorite three quarter length jeans to wear paired with a dark blue t-shirt and black wedge heels. She held her umbrella over her head and looked down the road with a fretful look on her face. She hoped a bus would show up soon, even with her umbrella, the windy rain would have her drenched in no time. She was still pacing and praying for a bus when suddenly a black car drove past speeding along and splashed the whole pool of dirty water on the road on her.

Jaiye looked at the car as it sped past, it was even a dean's car! It was one of the official cars that the university gave to faculty deans - a black toyota camry. But it must have been the dean's driver that drove, Jaiye didn't think such a highly educated man could have driven a car in such a daft manner. She didn't even know what faculty the dean was, all she knew was that the car had a pink sticker on it's bumper. she was so angry, now she had to go back home and change everything she was wearing.

Jaiye ended up arriving at the get-together late, but she soon forgot about all the escapades of the morning. The get-together was great fun. All her favorite things were served: Nigerian jollof rice, that type that had a smoky taste, there had been icecream, chocolate, cookies, and lots of laughter. It ended all too soon, and so soon after it had started, it was time to go.

She was strolling to the hostel happily with some of her friends from the get-together who were headed in the same direction when she suddenly saw the same car that had splashed water on her just parking outside the faculty of science building. Jaiye stopped in her tracks. The man that opened the driver's door and stepped out didn't look like he was a driver, he looked like he was the dean himself. "ahn ahn, what is dean doing here on a weekend?" said Dora. That was all Jaiye needed to hear.

She increased her pace and left her friends behind without an explanation. Jaiye walked straight to the dean who was now getting some things from the back seat of his car. "Good evening sir". "Good evening", the dean answered curtly, not bothering to lift his head. "Sir, I came to tell you that I think you do not have any road courtesies or human feelings at all", now he looked up sharply. Jaiye continued without missing a beat "it was raining this morning and there were dirty puddles on the road everywhere. You were speeding along the road and you saw a girl standing at Mayfair busstop in town, you didn't even bother to slow down, you just splashed right through the water and drenched me. I don't think that was fair and I don't think it was responsible at all. From someone of your calibre, I would have expected more, much more. Have a good evening sir!"

Jaiye left the shocked man staring at her as she went to rejoin her gaping friends. She felt good about what she had just done, the man would drive with a some consideration for other road users in the future, she hoped.
